Here we are: you're finally ready to choose the perfect wedding dress.
Thanks to these 7 tips you'll be ready to fall in love with the white dress... with no stress.
Take your time
As per all details that concerns planning your wedding, choosing the perfect dress has a specific timing too. Our advice is to start looking between 12-10 months in advance so that you'll have the chance to evaluate ateliers and dress and you won't have to rush for modifications and adjustments.
Set your budget and decide who's gonna pay
These two details needs to be carefully planned and communicated to the atelier during the appointment. Only if the personnel really know where your limit is, they could suggest suitable models without the risk of you falling in love with a wedding dress you just can't afford. That would be extremely frustrating and all the magic of the moment will vanish...Such a pity!
Something you need to keep in mind too is to decide who's going to pay for the dress: this will help you avoiding misunderstandings and awkward moments.
Get inspired and dream your perfect wedding dress
Before scheduling an appointment at the atelier, get inspired by the models you can see online (or on the magazines) and try to picture yourself in those dress. Are you going to look for a romantic look? A modern one? Something essential? Or maybe what you dream since you were a kid is a ball gown...
Whatever your ideal dress is remember to be consistent and always try to match the style, the theme and the location of your wedding... Staying true to yourself, of course.
At the atelier, the personnel will ask where will the reception be held, when will you get married, if you have a theme or a style: be precise on details and honest on what you desire, so that they will be able to advise you in the best possible way.
Carefully choose who's gonna come with you
We know, many of you would love to have everyone around during the appointment. However, our advice is to invite just 2-3 people (your mom included!): too many different voice could result in making you even more confused...Your opinion is the only one that matters!
If you hired a wedding planner, it is a good idea to ask him/her to come with you: they are experienced enough and will give you a honest and professional opinion.
What to bring with you
Many ateliers will ask you to bring specific things when scheduling the appointment but, as a general rule, it is always good to have:
- nude underwear (balconette bra with removable straps and and laser-cut panties)
- The shoes you will wear on your wedding day (or a pair of heels with the desired height)
- hair band and bobby pins
Start with a multi-brand atelier
If it is your first time wearing a wedding dress, it is a good idea to choose an atelier with different brands and styles. You could get a wider overview and you could understand in a more precise way what are you looking for, what do you like, what fits you best and what it's just not right for you.
You might also discover that you want a made-to-measure, such as the ones designed by Barbara Beltrame Atelier or by the couturier Silvia Valli for our brides Eleonora e Giulia
Wait a little before saying "no"
We know, every bride has her own "black list"! Those dresses she would never wore, those details she would not even imagine, the must-haves to cover her "imperfections"... Quite often, the perfect dress will surprise you because it would be exactly what you truly wanted to discard. Keep you mind open and let the atelier advisors help you.
Don't be afraid to ask for alterations
Just like the one you will marry, the dress, may not be entirely perfect: a belt full of rhinestones, too many tulle layers, uncomfortable sleeves that might impede you to rock the party or just a décolleté that won' t be admitted into a church. Talk to the advisors, the tailoring department of the atelier will surely help you find the right solution to make your dress perfect.
According to us, this is a valuable advice especially now that many weddings have been postponed to fall or next year due to Covid-19. As soon as possible, book an appointment to the atelier and let them suggest you how to adjust your dress to new season.
